IEEE Student Branch Shoumen history and structure

The IEEE Student Branch - Shoumen in Faculty "Artillery, Air Defence and CIS" officially is founded on 9-th September 1998. His number is 60691. From 2003 other students from "Konstantin Preslavkiv University of Shoumen join the SBS. By this way the SBS becomes a joint student branch with students from the Faculty "Artillery, Air Defence and CIS" of the National Military University "Vasil Levski" and from the Faculty "Technical Studies" of the "Konstantin Preslavski" University of Shoumen. From 2005 IEEE SBS Counsellor is Assoc. Prof. Ivan Tsonev, Dean of the Faculty "Technical Studies". Since then the students from the University of Shoumen engage the main activities of the IEEE SBS. In June 2006 Antonya Yovcheva, a student from Faculty "Mathematics and Informatics" as IEEE SBS Chairman, participated in the IEEE Student Branches Chairmen Congress from Reagion 8 which took place in Paris, France.

Thereafter the IEEE SBS has had diffrent number of members as follows:

• 1998 – 32 members
• 1999 – 72 members
• 2000 – 28 members
• 2001 – 22 members
• 2002 – 18 members
• 2003 – 20 members
• 2004 – 21 members
• 2005 – 23 members (8 cadets, 4 students and 11 PhD students)
• 2006 – 21 members (11 cadets, 7 students and 3 PhD students)
• 2007 – 21 members (11 cadets, 7 students and 3 PhD students)
• 2008 – 30 members (11 cadets, 14 students and 5 PhD students)

1. First meeting of the IEEE Student Branches (IEEE SB) in Bulgaria on 18-th Nov 1998 with representatives from 19 IEEE SB from the Technical Universities in Sofia, Varna, Gabrovo, the University of Veliko Tarnovo, the National Military University (NMU) Faculty "Land Forces" - Veliko Tarnovo, NMU Faclty "Avionics" - Dolna Mitropolia
2. Second meeting of the IEEE SB in Bulgaria in May 1999
3. Third meeting of the IEEE SB in Bulgaria in April 2000
4. Balkan Region IEEE SB Meeting and Schientific Conference in May 2001. In the meeting participated 43 members of IEEE from Poland, Romania, Slovenia, Macedonia, Greece, Turkey and Bulgaria

1. IEEE Chairmen Congress from Region 8 in May 2000, Eindhoven, Netherlands
2. IEEE Chairmen Congress from Region 8 in June 2006, Paris, France

From the foundation the IEEE SBS have a club-house and a separate reading-room in the library of the Faculty "Technical Studies", which are used mostly by the IEEE SBS members.

For the passed years 11 members of the IEEE SB successfully defended PhD dissertations, 1 is in procedure of defending and over 40 diplomas for Magister degree have been worked out. also in the period 2002 – 2008 students, members of the IEEE SBS presented 8 papers on scientific conferences abroad.

At the moment IEEE SBS Chairman is Philip Luybomirov, a second year student from the "Konstantin Preslavski" University of Soumen Faculty "Technical Studies". The other members of the executive board of the IEEE SB are:

• Marin Rumenov Marinov, second year student, Faculty "Technical Studies" of the "Konstantin Preslavski" University of Soumen
• Petar Krasenov Boyanov, first year student, Faculty "Technical Studies" of the "Konstantin Preslavski" University of Soumen
• Georgi Telefonski, forth year cadet, Faculty "Artillery, Air Defence and CIS" of the NMU "Vasil Levski"
